Truckmounts Vs. Portable Carpet Cleaners: Which is better for the consumer?
Since we opened we have been asked many times by our customers which system is better. Many consumers do not know the difference. They know that there is a machine that shoots down water and a vacuum hose sucking it out.
Both are acceptable Hot Water Extraction machines, which many carpet manufactures require to be done every 12-18 months to keep warranties valid, but there are a many differences. The manufactures also require the company that you use to be an I.I.C.R.C Certified Firm. (www.iicrc.org)
Portable machine can do a good job, but have to use a lot of cleaning solutions, a lot more time, and the carpet will take a long time to dry. The water a portable uses can only be as hot as the water from your faucet, usually about 120°. However by the time it leaves your faucet, is put in the machine, and cleaning begins it is much colder. It’s a fact that for every 18 degree over 118° the chemical action of the cleaning solution doubles.
This is the first positive fact about using a Truck Mounted System. The water in a Truck Mount is heated constantly to over 220° (usually between 170-190° at the carpet fiber). That’s a lot more chemical action and a MUCH better clean. The increase in heat helps to more effectively break down soil, grease, and other spots for more complete removal. Also, as a cleaner this means we use less cleaning solution meaning a healthier environment for all.
Water pressure is the next difference between a portable and a Truck Mount. In order for your carpets to be cleaned effectively the cleaning solution must be rinsed out completely. If it is not then the remaining solution will collect soil causing your carpet to get dirty faster. A portable is usually capable of 125-150 PSI. That is not a lot and if the technician does not take the time to thoroughly rinse then you are stuck with solution on your carpet. A carpet should be rinsed at 300-400 PSI, which a Truck Mount is more than capable of achieving. (Can go as high as 3000 PSI but only used at higher PSI for hard surfaces) The higher PSI helps to agitate the fibers, spots, and oils, and soil to better remove them all.
Vacuum power is the next difference between the two machines. Truck Mounts have much more power than portable machines. Even though Truck Mounts have higher water pressure the vacuum is powerful enough to have most carpets completely dry in 4-6 hours or less. Portables Do Not have this capability. Most portables require overnight to be the recommended dry time. This causes stains to wick back up to the surface and of course is very inconvenient to the consumer. Better vacuum suction also means better extraction of spots, soil, grease, dust, and many other contaminants from the carpet.
Esteamed Solutions, as most professional carpet cleaners will tell you Truck Mounts are a better clean for the consumer. Hotter water, higher water pressure and better vacuum suction all mean a MUCH BETTER overall clean for the consumer. If you have any questions just give us a call!

Knowing how to keep carpets clean helps to reduce dust and make your home look cleaner all the time. But, if you have kids or pets, keeping your carpets clean can be a real challenge. As the largest surface in the home, a dirty carpet can make your entire place look messy. To make matters worse, every time someone walks across a dirty floor their footsteps kick up dust and carpet fibers which then float around in the air and settle on your furniture.
In other words, keeping your carpets clean helps keep your entire home cleaner, too. Read on for five easy tips that will help:
HOW TO KEEP CARPETS CLEAN:
1. MAKE A “NO SHOES” RULE
Many people feel uncomfortable asking visitors to remove their shoes at the door, but it’s becoming a more commonly accepted practice. In some regions, you don’t even have to ask: it’s common courtesy because everyone knows it helps keep carpets clean. One way to avoid awkwardness is by providing a bucket of clean house slippers for guests to wear. You can also explain that shoes track in dirt, germs, toxins and harmful bacteria which they grind into our carpets. Becoming a shoe-free home protects your family from these things and reduces the wear and tear on your carpet’s fibers.
2. TREAT SPILLS IMMEDIATELY
The longer carpet stains are left untreated, the more difficult they are to get out. Over time, stains can become permanent, so it’s essential to clean them quickly. On treated carpets, immediately blotting stains with a clean, dry towel will lift the majority of the mess. Follow with a rag dipped in warm, soapy water and press — not rub — to lift out the rest of the spot, then press another dry cloth to absorb moisture. If the stain persists, try these specific methods to clean carpet stains.
3. PUT MATS AT ALL EXTERIOR DOORS
Mats placed on both sides of exterior doors give people and pets a place to wipe their feet and help keep carpets clean. These mats will also catch the majority of loose debris tracked in on shoes (though not the bacteria and pesticides). Vacuum, sweep or shake out your mats every couple of days, so they don’t collect dirt. Set them outside on a rainy day or hose them down every couple of weeks, too.
4. PARTY IN THE BACK
When throwing a cookout, pool party, or just a play date for the kids, focus the fun on your outdoor spaces to keep people from tromping all over your home. A sign by the back door directing guests to your closest bathroom helps, and so does keeping coolers on the patio or deck stocked with drinks and snacks. You’ll still get to enjoy entertaining, but you won’t have to worry about keeping carpets clean.
5. VACUUM OFTEN AND WELL
Vacuum wall-to-wall at least once a week and more often in high-traffic areas to keep carpets clean. It’s important to use the crevice attachment around the base of walls and furniture, too, since dust and pet hair often collect there. Even daily vacuuming won’t get the deep-down grit and dirt out of your carpets if you aren’t doing it the right way. So, learn to vacuum properly, and keep your vacuum clean to ensure it’s working well.
CARPET CLEANING TIPS FOR PET OWNERS
Inspect your floors often. Even house-trained dogs and litter box-trained cats have accidents, so inspect your carpets often for accidents and treat pet stains quickly when you find them. Brush your pet twice a week. Brushing helps remove excess hair before it can wind up on your floor. My dog and cats love these grooming gloves that remove excess hair — they’re easy to use and do a fantastic job. Vacuum their favorite spots daily. Using a hand-held vacuum on Fido’s favorite sunny spot on the floor is just one of many tips to control pet hair in your home.

5 Tips to Keep Carpet Looking New
Many new carpets come with a host of stain and wear-resistant guarantees, but the fact is, wear and tear can eventually make even the most expensive carpet look old and dirty.
Many new carpets come with a host of stain and wear-resistant guarantees, but the fact is, wear and tear can eventually make even the most expensive carpet look old and dirty. Here are six tips for keeping your carpet in top shape.
1. Understand what damages your carpet
A huge part of keeping your carpet in great shape is understanding what causes it to become damaged. The main contributor to wear and tear on your carpet is regular foot traffic. Well-traveled areas, like staircases and entryways, will show damage sooner than bedroom carpets or the corners of rooms.
To mitigate this damage, you have several options. One is to change the position of furniture in a high-traffic room to alter traffic patterns and limit the number of furniture “divots” in your carpet. You can also choose to lay down rugs or carpet runners to absorb some of the damage. If you’re having carpet installed for the first time or replacing existing carpet, consider investing in a heavy underlay (the foam or rubber layer that goes under your carpet) to help prevent damage.
2. Using carpet sprays
One of the most commons signs of a damaged carpet is a musty smell. Dirt, pollen, dander, skin cells and other particles find their way into carpet, giving rise to a sour odor that doesn’t disappear when vacuumed. You can help mitigate this smell by using air fresheners or carpet sprays, but be aware they are only temporary fixes.
3. Dealing with spills immediately
Even minor spills can quickly turn into stains if left untreated. One trick to keep your carpet looking new is to deal with any spill as soon as it happens so it doesn’t have time to set in.
4. Tackling set-in stains
Sometimes, it’s not possible to deal with a spill immediately, or a spill may go unnoticed if you’ve had a party (or have small children who might prefer to hide the evidence instead of taking the blame). If it’s a food-based or other organic stain that’s started to smell, you can use detergent and cold water to break it down. Soak up as much of the water as possible, let it dry and then apply baking soda. Let it sit overnight to pull up as much of the stain as possible and then vacuum it up. You can also use commercial spot-stain removers, but be sure to follow the directions exactly. These products are powerful and can damage carpets if too much is used.
5. Steam and dry cleaning
Keeping your carpet looking new means taking time to do the little things like cleaning up spills and stains and vacuuming. But it’s also important to do a deeper carpet cleaning once in a while, using either steam or dry cleaning to pull out or break down stains. If your carpet hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned in the last year, you may want to consider hiring a professional cleaner that uses a high-power steam cleaning machine or high-performance dry cleaning chemicals.
